The current web page applies to Canon Utilities EOS Utility version 2.13.21.0 alone. You can find below a few links to other Canon Utilities EOS Utility releases: 2.3.1.3.
Since I originally wrote this post there have been several new versions of the software that require different instructions.
- May 14, 2010 One note about the new 2.13.40 updater. If you rename the info.datx it will still complain the package is damaged/corrupted Try it this way Copy the app to your desktop and display package contents so you can see the info.datx. When you run it, OSX will say it was downloaded from the Internet, are you sure you want to run it.
- Download canon eos utility os x yosemite canon eos utility picture style canon eos utility tool download canon eos utility vs. Installation Instructions: 1. Click the ‘Download’ link in the table above Ntfs For Mac 14 Download. When prompted by your Browser, click ‘Run’ (‘Save’ in Firefox) 3. Click ‘Run’ Again 4.
- I then run the updater. The version I have prior to update is 2.6.0. I then run the updater and the updater appears as though it updates 2.13.40 perfectly. I can launch EOS Utility and get to the main window where the only option I can select is 'Monitor Folder'; and, when I check the version, it still shows it as 2.6.0.

Versions < 2.9.0
I recently tried installing the Canon EOS Utility on my new laptop. After checking Canon’s website I found that they only offer updates, no actual installer. For that you need the CD that came with your camera. Like most people I lost mine long ago. I’m not sure why Canon wants to make it so hard to use their software without the original CD. It’s not like you can use it without buying one of their cameras. The only conclusion I can come up with is that they are completely fucking retarded.
We can get around their retardedness (it’s a word, shut it) by editing their updater. This will only work with the older versions. As of this writing the 2.61 updater works. Download the updater here (I think all cameras have the same EOS Utility) http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct and grab the latest version as well while you’re at it. Now extract the 261 updater and copy out UpdateInstaller to your Desktop. Then right click and go to Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/ and delete update.plist. Now run the installer. Once that is finished you can run the latest updater and it will recognize your previous install. The latest updater (281) doesn’t contain the update.plist file, so we have to install the old one first, then update.
I got most of this info from http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/install_canon_software.html which includes instructions for doing the same thing in Windows.
P.S. Canon I love your hardware, but your software department is run by imbeciles.

Bilock mentions that in version 2.9.0 the update.plist file is now in the SDI.bundle subpackage:
– Show Package Contents of the UpdateInstaller
– Show Package Contents of the SDI.bundle
– delete the Contents/Resources/update.plist
relaunch the UpdateInstaller.
Work for me under osx 10.6.7

Original reason for this article was the Technicolor profile, which is available here (Read Vincent quick review)! The only problem is that you need to have EOS Utility installed on your computer.
If you are like me, you threw the Canon CD away as soon as you opened you 5D Mrk II box. No problem you think, I just have to download the app from the Canon site. Problem is that Canon is only providing an updater, not an installer. Basically this means that you can only update your app, not install it. Luckily they made changes to this issue for Windows users, but problem persisted with the Mac users. But don’t worry we have solution.
Solution for OS X users
After 2.14 version of the EOS Utility Updater, you will not be able to use old tutorial that worked flawlessly so far, but there is a way to install newest and current version: 2.14.20a to your latest MAC OS X.
Older Mac OS X users have option to download Solution Disk Software which includes EOS Utility as well.
MAC OS X 10.11.x – El Capitan – WORKING
- Go to Canon USA or even better, Canon UK site (where you can pick your DSLR from list)
- after you chose your camera, click on the Software
- pick Operating System: OS X Lion 10.7
- Under Software you should find and Download old EOS Utility 2.14.0 – zip file
- Unpack it to the Desktop and then click on .dmg file to mount it
- Make New Folder on your Desktop
- Copy all contest (enable hidden files) to New Folder you made on Desktop
- Important step: Run it, you will get this “error”:
- Close this window
- Click on the EU2.14.0X_updater and pick: ‘Show Package Contents‘
- Navigate to ./Contents/Ressources/

MAC OS X other versions than Mavericks
This steps doesn’t work for Mavericks, read above and do the rest from this steps (and replace newest with older EOS Utility Updater):

- After download it will automatically mount (if it doesn’t: unzip and mount)
- Open EU2.13.40 – disk mount
- Make New Folder on the Desktop
- Copy whole content from mounted EU2.13.40 to the new Folder you just made
- Click on the EU2.13.40X_updater and pick: ‘Show Package Contents‘
- Navigate to ./Contents/Ressources/ and delete the Info.datx file
- Navigate back and run the EU2.13.40X_updater

If above instructions doesn’t work, you might give this a try:
Download the appropriate files from Canon for your camera and follow steps:

1. Go to official canon site, find your camera and Download EOS Digital Solution Disk Software located under Software (link for 5D Mark II here)

You could insert only keys for software you want to install, rest is not needed, but no harm to put it all at once.
Pick to save as All Files from drop down (*.*). Save file as CanonPreInstall.reg, you can as well save as *.txt and then rename, be sure you have option to see extension turned on. Run it (double click or right mouse click “Merge”), confirm it !
After that you can run DPP update that you downloaded from official Canon site.
